About Us

The National Stage Company of Canada was formed in January 2020 as a multi-faceted professional performing arts organization. With over 6 creative divisions in place including live theatre, dance, and concert production, the NSCC is a robust institution that strives to add to the rich and vibrant artistic and cultural landscape of not only the local region, but the country as well.
With a primary focus on creating a central core of artists of varying backgrounds and ages, the company’s strategic goal is to provide its members with consistent opportunities to further develop and enhance their skills, talents, and overall creativity in an all-inclusive environment that fosters, aids, and supports their individual ambitions as they make the important transition from local community-based performer into recognized professional.
The company accomplishes this through the presentation of high-quality productions and specialized events, and through the creation of workshops and masterclasses with renowned international guest instructors. These important efforts provide company members and outside artists with the necessary tools and guidance needed to advance their careers in a steady, focused, and balanced way.
The National Stage Company of Canada is pleased to be a bridge for these artists as they pursue their goals of becoming working professionals in the industry. In the Fall of 2020, the company began to schedule its formal debut for January 2021 with the development of a ‘phase one’ plan to select an inaugural season that would not only be exciting and versatile for its artists, but also begin to put into motion the foundational needs to begin building an enthusiastic and supportive audience base across Vancouver Island, and beyond.
Mandate
The National Stage Company of Canada mandate encompasses three specific areas:
- Creation, Production and Presentation of seasons of diverse, inspiring, stimulating, accessible, and affordable professional productions that reach a broad cross-section of communities regardless of geography or socio-economic status.
- Development of specialized training, workshop and masterclass programs, including mentoring and apprenticeship, for emerging and established artists.
- Professional performance opportunities that support and showcase the versatile talents and skills of local community based Canadian artists.
The National Stage Company of Canada was born out of a passionate sense of artistic responsibility – a responsibility to bring artists into the mainstream professional theatre industry.
N.S.C.C. encourages its artists to expand their vision of what they perceive, create and present to a local, regional and national audience.
